It’s the summer of 1980 and Björn Borg (Sverrir Gudnason) is the top tennis player in the world, dominating the sport both on and off the court. A powerful and rigorously disciplined player, there is only one obstacle in his pursuit of a record-breaking fifth Wimbledon championship: the highly talented but ferociously abrasive young American, John McEnroe (a perfectly cast Shia LaBeouf).
With three days until the tournament begins, Borg trains religiously in his lavish Monaco home, aided by his coach and mentor Lennart (Stellan Skarsgård) and girlfriend Mariana (Tuva Novotny). But McEnroe's explosive confidence and wrecking-ball persona continue to infiltrate Borg's ice-cool and normally unshakable temperament. With each man the antithesis of the other, both players delve into their formative memories as the climactic tournament draws near and anticipation reaches fever pitch.

에스토니아 펜싱 선수 엔델은 독일군의 강제 징집으로 2차 세계대전에 참전한다. 이후 나치가 패망하면서 소련군은 에스토니아에서 독일군으로 활동했던 이들을 찾아 수감시킨다. 스탈린의 철권 통치가 시작된 1953년, 작은 마을로 도망쳐온 엔델은 신분을 숨기고 시골 학교의 체육교사로 살아간다. 펜싱클럽을 열고 아이들을 가르치던 어느 날, 레닌그라드로부터 펜싱대회 참가신청서가 날아오고 대회에 참가하면 자신의 신분이 노출될 상황에 처한다. 아이들에게 '희망'을 선물한 전직 펜싱 선수의 감동 실화.

A young man, Endel Nelis, arrives in Haapsalu, Estonia, in the early 1950s. Having left Leningrad to escape the secret police, he finds work as a teacher and founds a sports club for his students. Endel becomes a father figure to his students and starts teaching them his great passion – fencing, which causes a conflict with the school’s principal. Envious, the principal starts investigating Endel’s background…
Endel learns to love the children and looks after them; most are orphans as a result of the Russian occupation. Fencing becomes a form of self-expression for the children and Endel becomes a role model. The children want to participate in a national fencing tournament in Leningrad, and Endel must make a choice: risk everything to take the children to Leningrad or put his safety first and disappoint them.
